Mr. Braxton Bar and Kichen Restaurant Review

Black People are never on time, and what I’ve heard, from my culinary friends is they hate when people show up at restaurants right when they open. Well Mr. Braxton’s opens at 5pm and we arrived at 5:00pm, yeah we were those people. I had looked at the menu when choosing a restaurant to be the “Welcome to Dc” for my cousin who had never been before, liked it and decided it was worth a try. As we entered, the hostess asked if we had reservations, which of course we didn’t, but this confused me because there was no one inside. So she takes my name , and in my mind I was like hmmmm the sheningans begin, this is why people stay away from black establishments. However I was surprised, we were greeted by all the staff that were in the front and not even 2 mins we were escorted through the dinning area and bar to a back door. As the door opened we were lead to the backyard garden patio area. Think the Secret Garden, with a Alison Wonderland twist with a touch of urban vibes.

We were met with a soundtrack of Afro Beats, Soca, and throwback hip hop. To keep on theme we’ll just say the Madd Hatter (our waiter) popped up at the table to introduce himself. Goofy, Charismatic, and extremely knowledgeable of the menu, for a second I thought I was back in culinary school. He presented the menu, gave suggestions, offered substitutions, and even asked the chef to add a little extra to each plate to further personalize our experience. He even did a whole wine presentation at our table and hopped in the vlog we were doing. Then the food came out.

The table fell silent. It was like a scene from LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE. You could tell the food was mad with feelings, cause we could taste them in every bite. I personally got the Salmon Sandwich with truffle fries. The Salmon was moist, and seasoned all the way through. The linguini Carbonara got no complaints and the clams were emptied as soon as they reached the table. Plates were wiped cleaned by the end of the dinner. Mr. Braxton’s is a high recommendation on the LAG foodie list.
