Turo Turo
So I travel quite often and have gotten used to renting cars whenever away. Partly because of the side hustle (Uber driver) but also I like to operate on my own time not having to wait on anyone. Uber is always an option but if you plan on frolicking around town those charges can ad up. Usually the best rental companies for me are Avis and Alamo, preferably the latter because I usually get to avoid hidden fees, credit card holds, there's free cancellation and pay at the counter. But with my recent Miami trip, being a holiday weekend and a huge spike in people coming in because of the events rental prices were upwards of $600. I like to enjoy vacations but I also like to not come home broke.
I heard of a rental app Turo a few years back and even downloaded it but never used it. Someone had mentioned it a few days before my trip and I was like let me give it a try. Everyone knows by now I'm an avid Airbnb user, and basically this is the same concept but for cars. You can choose: the type of car from high end to basic, the distance you are willing to pick it up from. There are options to get picked up from the airport or wherever location you are. There is insurance options as well, And you can even contact the host to talk before hand. For me I went from expecting to pay $600 to paying $230. The handoff with the car was smooth and I even extended an extra day. The best part was the fact I booked my car a mere hours before I needed it. So for my last minute people (which I'm usually not lol) it's great.
