Black Girl Magic: Red Blend

Hey Everyone! My name is Brittany, and I adore wine. That wasn’t too hard to admit…out loud anyway. You can say I developed my palette for wine; I mean great wine(s) working at my former job.

Breaking bread and clinking glasses were quarterly events, and there were the occasional floor Happy hours. During those events, I sampled various wines and drinks that allowed me to identify what I liked and disliked. I’ve come a long way from my university days, where wine meant we were going to get a bottle of Moscato (not knocking Moscato, at all!) My travels have defiantly contributed too. Drinking Sancerre in France or a vegan Italy wine in Edinburgh were memorable events, and damn good glasses of wine too!

Over the summer, I stumbled across this Black-owned wine shop in Bed-Stuy. It was love at first sight for the wine connoisseur I’m trying to become. I was happy to come across Happy Cork because during these times it’s extremely important to shop locally and, personally for me, to support Black-owned businesses.

During one of my most recent visits, I finally bought a wine I have been eyeing for a while. Black Girl Magic Red Blend from the McBride Sisters Collection (Gold Medal winner at the San Diego International Wine & Spirits Competition). I have tried a couple of their white wines, and absolutely loved them. So, it was about time I tried one of their red wines. I mean tis’ the season to enjoy a nice glass of red wine.

From the first sip, I was a goner. Truly, it was great glass of red that lived up to the expectations. That’s a huge deal for me because I have yet to find a red wine outside of a Malbec that has blown my palette away. I have to admit I tend to shy away from red wines, it not my go-to. A glass of red and the night going to end early or we outside late.

I highly recommend this wine. The hype around it is warranted. I only wish I had a good charcuterie board to elevate the experience.

A gorgeous red wine with fruit-forward aromas of black cherry and fleshy red plum. It's smooth, full-bodied palate has continuing notes of cherry and plum with added cedar and vanilla, from the extended oak aging. The finish is round and luxurious with layers of perfectly balanced tannin on lush fruit (McBride Sisters Collection Black Girl Magic 2018 California Red Blend, n.d.)
